Bio: Sophie is a Research Associate with CASCADE (Children’s Social Care Research and Development Centre), based within the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University.

Sophie’s research interests and areas of expertise revolve around aspects related to childhood and youth studies, care, social policy analysis, and participative creative research methods. Sophie’s PhD research was funded by the National Institute for Social Care and Health Research and was a qualitative inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) in South-East Wales. This project involved young people with experiences of CSE and a range of different professionals tasked to identify and intervene in the problem. Sophie’s other research projects have involved young people who sexually harm, and children and young people Looked After. Prior to beginning her academic career, Sophie worked in the third and public sectors as a consultant on a number of research and policy related projects. Previous to this, Sophie worked for the Big Lottery Fund and Barnardo’s Cymru. Sophie is committed to research and theory that seeks to influence public service policy and professional practice.
